Doctors in Politics Launches Ambitious Effort to Send 50 Physicians to Congress In 2022

NEW YORK–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Doctors in Politics, a physician-led political action committee advancing an agenda of affordable, quality, patient-centered healthcare, today announced they will mobilize, amplify, and support doctors to step into their urgently needed role as public stewards. At this moment, doctors are uniquely positioned to champion the best care for patients and be a driving force to heal America’s healthcare system. Doctors in Politics is creating momentum for physicians in public life first by profiling 2020 doctor candidates for Congress who embrace this mission. The group will conduct a groundbreaking nationwide search to identify 50 doctor candidates to run for Congress in 2022.

“The coronavirus pandemic illustrates the serious need to change how we provide healthcare,” said Hisam Goueli, MD, founder of Doctors in Politics. “There is no time to lose. We are not waiting to get to Congress to build a patient-centric physicians’ caucus. We’re building it now. As doctors, we know what is broken because we live it every day, and we know what it will take to make the system work for everyone. Right now, patients are dying in a system that doesn’t prioritize their health. Doctors can fix this, inspire voters, and transform American healthcare.”
